Austria, the heart of Europe, is a land where history, culture, and natural beauty intertwine. From the melodic streets of Salzburg to the imperial grandeur of Vienna and the alpine allure of Innsbruck, each visit offers a unique experience. Here's a guide inspired by my travels through this enchanting country.โ€‹

๐ŸŽผ Salzburg: Following the Footsteps of the Von Trapps

My solo adventure in Salzburg in 1990 led me to the iconic "The Sound of Music" tour. This experience takes you through the actual filming locations, including Mirabell Gardens, Leopoldskron Palace, and the gazebo at Hellbrunn Palace. Singing along to classics like "Do-Re-Mi" while exploring these sites was truly magical, as I watched the movie every time it came on network television, which is all we had when I was a child.

I even danced across the field where the Von Trapp children frolicked in their clothing made from tapestries. No one else joined me.

๐ŸŽ‰ Innsbruck: Ringing in the New Year Amidst the Alps

Celebrating New Year's Eve in Innsbruck with my family was unforgettable. The city's "Bergsilvester" festivities feature a vibrant party atmosphere with live music, DJs, and a spectacular fireworks display set against the backdrop of snow-capped mountains. โ€‹

๐ŸŽจ Vienna: A Blend of Imperial Elegance and Modern Charm

Vienna, with its rich history and vibrant culture, offers endless exploration. From the majestic Schönbrunn Palace to the artistic treasures of the Belvedere and the interactive exhibits at the Haus der Musik, the city is a haven for art and music lovers.

After a Mediterranean cruise with 6 other girlfriends, two of us scurried off to Vienna as a stopover before we moved onto Budapest and then Prague. My word for it? Stately.

HUMBLE PIE

What you don't know about Jim Crow

by Sally Hendrick

Two little girls in rural West Tennessee are best friends but only in secret. Separated by a cotton field, their lives couldn't be any more different. Sudie's and Mabie's friendship, beautiful yet tragic, leaves a mark for generations to come.

Sally takes you on a journey back in time to the early 1900's Jim Crow South, as she imagines what life was like for her grandmother, Sudie, weaving together memories from her own childhood and stories from her family, even the black women who raised her.

Coming someday soon. Please enjoy this chapter for now.
